Emerging economies trust AI more than developed economies
A major survey by the University of Melbourne and professional services firm KPMG has found that people in emerging economies are more willing to trust artificial intelligence and are more optimistic and excited about its benefits than those in developed economies. The global study shows that two-thirds of respondents now use AI regularly, and even more (83%) believe that it will bring widespread benefits. But 58% of respondents believe that the technology is not trustworthy, which is an increase from the level found in a study before ChatGPT came out in 2022. The survey also found that three-fifths of people in emerging economies trust AI, while only two-fifths of people in developed countries do. Gillespie, who led the study, believes that the higher acceptance and trust of AI in emerging economies is due to the greater relative benefits and opportunities that the technology provides to people in these countries, as well as the increasingly important role it plays in economic development.
