Google to roll out age verification feature to some users in the US
On July 30, Google announced that it will begin rolling out an "age verification" feature to a small number of users in the United States in the coming weeks and will closely monitor the situation before rolling it out to a wider user base. Google said that for users identified as under the age of 18, existing enhanced protections will be automatically provided to ensure an age-appropriate experience, including: enabling YouTube's digital well-being tools, such as reminding users to rest and go to bed, and adding protections to content recommendations, including limiting repeated viewing of certain types of content; disabling timelines in maps; disabling personalized ads and limiting age-sensitive ad categories; and preventing users identified as minors from accessing apps on Google Play that are restricted to adults only.
