Platform algorithms move from “black box” to transparent
From the allocation of rider capacity to hotel accommodation recommendations, from the dispatch of online-booked vehicles to the supply chain management of e-commerce platforms, algorithms have become the underlying tools of all major platforms and the "invisible helmsman" of China's Internet world. Since the beginning of this year, algorithms have changed their "mysterious technology" attributes and accelerated the process of transparency. According to a review by a Securities Times reporter, except for a few platforms, platforms such as Douyin, Meituan, and Xiaohongshu have opened up the "black box" of algorithms. In this process, some "counter-common sense" cognitive calculation methods have also emerged. The mainstream judgment is that platform algorithm governance is a compulsory course for Internet companies in 2025. But algorithm transparency has its two sides-it is an important tool for reshaping digital civilization, and it is also a challenge for some platform business models. Most respondents said that the "technology for good" of Internet algorithms is the core and key to the problem.
