TSMC writes to the U.S. Department of Commerce: Proposes exemption of semiconductor-related tariffs
The official website of the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) under the U.S. Department of Commerce shows that TSMC, the world's largest chip manufacturer, and Intel, an American chip company, have submitted a letter of opinion to the U.S. Department of Commerce, opposing the imposition of tariffs on semiconductors and related equipment and materials. TSMC stated in the letter that the imposition of tariffs on semiconductor production equipment will increase costs, may delay progress, and in some cases even jeopardize the commercial viability of many announced and under-consideration projects. TSMC suggested that products that are difficult to produce in the United States should be exempted from tariffs. In addition, the U.S. government does not impose tariffs or other restrictive measures on semiconductors manufactured outside the United States, downstream terminal products containing semiconductors, and semi-finished products.
