The three major U.S. stock indexes all closed down more than 1%, and the energy sector rose against the trend
U.S. stocks opened lower and fell, with all three major indexes falling by more than 1%. The Dow fell 1.79%, a cumulative decline of 1.32% this week; the Nasdaq fell 1.3%, a cumulative decline of 0.63% this week; the S&P 500 fell 1.13%, a cumulative decline of 0.39% this week. Most large technology stocks fell, Intel fell more than 3%, Nvidia fell more than 2%, Apple and Meta fell more than 1%, Microsoft, Netflix, Google, and Amazon fell slightly; Tesla rose by about 2%. The energy sector rose against the trend, with Houston Energy rising more than 119%, U.S. Energy rising more than 55%, Indonesia Energy rising about 45%, and Mesa Royalty Trust rising about 29%. Drone manufacturer Airo closed up 140% on its first day of US IPO. Oracle rose more than 7%, with a cumulative increase of nearly 24% this week, the best single-week performance since 2001.
