US Air Force suspends SpaceX rocket program on Pacific atoll
According to CCTV News, the U.S. Air Force has suspended SpaceX's plan to test hypersonic rocket cargo from a Pacific atoll. A U.S. Air Force spokesman said the Air Force is exploring other locations for the project. It is reported that the project will test a reusable rocket landing vehicle that can deliver up to 100 tons of cargo to anywhere on Earth in about 90 minutes. Previously, biologists and experts said the project would endanger many seabirds nesting in the Johnston Atoll Wildlife Sanctuary. The U.S. Air Force had said it would conduct an environmental assessment of the project, but the release of the draft assessment was delayed due to opposition from environmental groups.
