Results of special sampling inspection on the use of food additives released: abuse issues remain prominent

According to the State Administration for Market Regulation, the State Administration for Market Regulation recently organized a special sampling inspection on the use of food additives, covering supermarkets, wholesale markets, restaurants and other places in 31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government) across the country, as well as 9 online sales platforms such as Pinduoduo, Douyin, and Taobao, focusing on sampling 21 major food categories such as cakes, canned food, and grain processed products, totaling 780 batches. The sampling results show that: 1. No unqualified samples were detected in 7 major food categories, including meat products, aquatic products, beverages, roasted food and nut products, dairy products, candy products, and edible oils, fats and their products; 2. Food additives were detected in different degrees of illegal use in sugar, starch and starch products, tea and its products, fruit products, alcohol, and soy products; in addition, the abuse of food additives in condiments, edible agricultural products, and vegetable products is still prominent, and the main unqualified items are bleaching agent sulfur dioxide, sweetener sodium cyclamate, and preservative dehydroacetic acid. Among them: 1. 21 batches of bulk angelica, galangal, star anise and other spices were found to have unqualified bleaching agent sulfur dioxide; 2. 20 batches of edible agricultural products were found to have unqualified, mainly peeled pineapples were found to have unqualified sweeteners, and mulberries were found to have unqualified sweeteners and preservatives. For the unqualified samples found, the State Administration for Market Regulation has urged the local market supervision departments to conduct verification and disposal, strictly control food safety risks, and consolidate the main responsibility for food safety. In the second half of the year, the State Administration for Market Regulation will continue to increase the intensity of daily inspections and supervision sampling of food additives, and severely investigate and punish illegal and irregular behaviors in accordance with the law.
