Shanghai's driverless taxis are now available for public use
According to Shangguan News, Shanghai has officially issued demonstration operation permits for intelligent connected vehicles, allowing eight companies to operate driverless taxis in pilot areas. Pudong New Area will fully open up autonomous driving services and will also expand access to areas like Fengxian and Minhang. The starting price for driverless taxis is 14 yuan per 3 kilometers, with additional travel time exceeding 3 kilometers at 2.7 yuan per kilometer. Operation hours are Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Pony.ai's public relations representative stated that its driverless taxis opened to the public on August 1st. Initial availability is limited, so wait times may be long.
