The Ministry of Commerce answers reporters' questions regarding relevant remarks made by the US
A reporter asked: Recently, there have been news reports from the US that China has violated the consensus of the Sino-US Geneva Economic and Trade Talks. What is the Ministry of Commerce's comment on this? A: China has noted the relevant situation. On May 12, after China and the US issued the "Joint Statement of the Sino-US Geneva Economic and Trade Talks", China, in accordance with the consensus reached in the joint statement, canceled or suspended the relevant tariffs and non-tariff measures taken against the US "reciprocal tariffs". China, in a responsible attitude, seriously treats, strictly implements, and actively safeguards the consensus of the Geneva Economic and Trade Talks. China is firm in safeguarding its rights and interests and is sincere in implementing the consensus. On the other hand, the US has successively introduced a number of discriminatory restrictive measures against China after the Geneva Economic and Trade Talks, including issuing AI chip export control guidelines, stopping the sale of chip design software (EDA) to China, and announcing the revocation of Chinese student visas. These practices seriously violate the consensus reached by the two heads of state on January 17, seriously undermine the existing consensus of the Geneva Economic and Trade Talks, and seriously damage China's legitimate rights and interests. The United States has unilaterally provoked new economic and trade frictions, exacerbating the uncertainty and instability of bilateral economic and trade relations. Instead of reflecting on itself, it has turned the tables and unreasonably accused China of violating consensus, which is seriously contrary to the facts. China firmly rejects such unreasonable accusations.
