Former US Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush made rare public speeches questioning the Trump administration's disbanding of USAID. The two former presidents, one from the Democratic Party and the other from the Republican Party, addressed USAID staff via video. Obama called Trump's disbanding of USAID "a huge mistake." Bush talked about Trump's cuts to the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). According to US media reports in March, the Trump administration has informed Congress that it will eliminate almost all remaining positions at USAID and close the agency.
